CONSULTATION
Before beginning psychotherapy, we will meet two or three times to evaluate your needs. Psychotherapy can lead to significant benefits in a client's life, but since this involves a large commitment of time, money, and energy, I believe it is highly advisable to meet more than once to determine (a) whether psychotherapy is a suitable way to help with the problems you identify, (b) whether I believe, in my best judgment, I would be able to help with these problems, and, (c) whether you feel comfortable continuing to work with me. By the end of the evaluation, I will be able to tell you if I believe I have experience with, and may be able to help with your concerns, and I will give some impressions of what our work together will include. If we do not move ahead with psychotherapy for any reason, I will assist in finding a more suitable psychotherapist for you.
As part of the consultation process, I can provide referrals to well-respected psychiatrists, interventionists, couples' therapists, child and adolescent therapists, group therapists, psychological assessment (personality, neuropsychological) as well as referrals to more intensive treatment when necessary (IOP, week-long intensives, rehab).
